April is Environment Month in Rotary. It’s a time when Rotarians around the globe are committing themselves to protecting and sustaining our common home. They do this by working on environmental projects in their local communities, by changing their personal habits to be more environmentally friendly, and by assisting Rotarians in other parts of the world to protect and sustain our natural environment.
As stated so succinctly by Rotary International, “Rotarians are committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources and advance ecological sustainability. We empower communities to embrace local solutions, create innovative service projects, and access grants and other resources to foster harmony between people and nature.”
So, how do we do this? Rotary enables our members and our community partners to take action by:
• Protecting and restoring land, coastal, marine, and freshwater resources
• Enhancing the capacity of communities to support natural resource management and conservation
• Supporting sustainable agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture practices
• Addressing the cause of climate change by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases
• Strengthening ecosystems and communities affected by climate change
• Supporting education initiatives that promote behavior that protects the environment
• Advocating for sustainable consumption to build an economy that uses resources more efficiently
• Addressing environmental public health concerns
Throughout District 7430, Rotarians are working to protect our environment and help create a sustainable world. Rotary makes change happen.
We are deeply involved locally. Our District Environmental Sustainability Team works with clubs that work with their communities to implement service projects that improve the environment and transform lives.

Come visit us at the MultiDistrict Leadership Summit in Gettysburg. We will have an environmental display in the House of Friendship with District 7390 (Southcentral Pennsylvania). We would love to chat with you about the environmental initiatives you have going on in your clubs.
And be sure to tune into the District Learning Opportunity on Monday, April 13 at 7:00 pm. Our Team will be discussing various environmental topics, including pollinator gardens and keeping food out of landfills.
We invite you to check out the District Environmental Sustainability Team. We meet regularly on Zoom and discuss environmental issues and explore ways to assist clubs with environmental projects.
