The Rotary Youth Exchange committee finished off 2023 with our current inbound students in style. We had a Friendsgiving celebration and marched in the Ambler holiday parade. For many students it was their first time participating in both types of events. Part of the youth exchange program is giving students the opportunity to experience something new. Many of these students learn more about themselves personally in one year than they have in the 15-18 years they have been alive. We encourage all Rotarians and clubs to get involved with the program as they are able. We always welcome new committee members, and people to offer an experience to the students (tickets to events or attractions, a trip to a vacation home, a hike to the highest peak in your area, a ride on your boat, learning how to make a family recipe…the possibilities are endless). If you have something to share, please let one of our committee members know or contact our chair Linda Kennedy to get connected to the right person. These youth will brighten your day and allow you to share our culture with someone new. Things you do everyday could be a new hobby or adventure for them.
We currently have seven students inbound in our district and we just admitted four to the outbound program for 2024-25. Thank you to Bethlehem/Bethlehem Morning Star, Emmaus, Pottstown, and West Reading-Wyomissing Clubs for finding and assisting these students. You will get to meet the new students in 2024 at various Rotary events. We are still accepting nominations for the next outbound class. Please present students ASAP so we can get them through the interviews and applications. If your club is willing to host an inbound student for the 2024-25 academic year, let us know right away. We are starting to gather our next group of students. We must take four students at a minimum, but it’s more fun when there are more students. Could we get to a class of 10 this year? Is your club willing to host? There is an $800 hosting fee the club pays as well as a monthly student allowance of $125-150. See our website for additional details. Want to learn more, ask Doylestown, Ambler, Blue Bell, Collegeville, Kutztown, Emmaus, Soudertown-Telford or Allentown West about their students currently spending an academic year in our district.
May 2024 be the best year yet and may we spread international peace one person at a time through our participation in youth exchange. Cheers!
