Rotary International Director Valarie Wafer visited District 7430 on December 8 and 9 during her first in-person meetings with Districts in our region. On December 7 and 8, she attended meetings with District 7505 hosted by DG Chuck Watson, including a luncheon with the Haddonfield Rotary Club. On Wednesday, RID Valarie and Zone Chair Herb Klotz joined Area 3 Rotarians for a holiday dinner. Thursday morning, she met with the District 7430 Executive Committee, Council of Governors and Assistant Governors at the Brookside Country Club in Pottstown.

There, she shared trending issues being addressed by the Rotary International Board of Directors. First, she mentioned the reorganization plans to deal with regional resolution of issues, membership and the goal to have District Governors still in career mode. Second, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts articulated in Rotary year 2020-2021 are designed to reflect community demographics in Rotary, provide equitable opportunities in leadership and increase membership. Third, Rotary International authorized flexible Club formats and organization (online and theme) allowing Clubs to “pivot” during COVID-19. Finally, RID Valarie described our alliance with Toastmasters to enable better public speaking by Rotarians.

On December ninth, she journeyed to District 7450, one of the Districts joining us in our District Conference scheduled for April 22-24, 2022 at the Hershey Lodge. In District 7450, she met with the Philadelphia Rotary Club in a discussion hosted by PRID Jeffry Cadorette and celebrated the 100th anniversary of the West Chester Rotary Club. PRID Jeffry facilitated these visits and we thank him for bringing Rotary International leadership to our region.
